Guwahati: A protest was held on Saturday in Assam by the Civil Society Organization to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya said that CAA will be implemented whether a state supports or not. Vijayvargiya said that there is no need for state approval to implement CAA in the country, for which the central government is itself competent. If a state will cooperate, we will implement it and if not, we will implement it. After completion of one year of CAA movement on Friday, many organizations including Akhil Assam Students Union (AASU), North East Students Organization (NESO), Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and Assam Ethnicist Youth Students Council (Ajayuchap) protested against this controversial law in leadership led to protests in Assam and other northeastern states and demanded its repeal. The first anniversary of CAA was celebrated by NESO as 'Black Day' in the Northeast region. The student organizations of the region warned the Modi government that the entire Northeast is united against this law and any attempt to implement CAA in these states will be strongly opposed. The protesters showed black flags against CAA and raised slogans demanding that it be cancelled. He described it as unconstitutional, communal and anti-Northeast.
