1984 Sikh riots: Threaten to kill lawyer, Magistrate gives big statement

Senior advocate HS Phoolka, representing the 1984 Sikh riot victims, has received death threats. A court in Delhi's Rouse Avenue has sought a response from the Central Investigation Agency by 11 February.

In his statement, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjot Singh Bhalla has asked the CBI to file a reply in this regard by 11 February. The court was hearing a case related to the riots in which Congress leader Jagdish Tytler is accused. After the threat, Phoolka said that all this cannot distract me. Such threats have been received many times during 35 years of fighting.

This case is related to the riots in Gurdwara Pulbangash in North Delhi, where 3 people died on November 1, 1984, a day after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. A closure report had come in the case of Badal Singh, Thakur Singh, and Gurcharan Singh's murder, but later a re-investigation was ordered.
