Statues of Mahatma Gandhi, BR Ambedkar, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Respectfully Moved Within Parliament Complex

New Delhi: Following allegations by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh regarding the relocation of statues of Mahatma Gandhi, BR Ambedkar, and Chhatrapati Shivaji from their prominent positions in front of the Parliament, the Lok Sabha Secretariat clarified that the statues were "respectfully" shifted to the grand 'Prerana Sthal' within the Parliament House Complex.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the Lok Sabha Secretariat explained that the decision to move the statues was part of an action plan for landscaping and beautification of the Parliament Complex after the construction of the new Parliament Building. The aim is to enhance the grandeur and attractiveness of the Complex in line with the dignity and decorum of the Parliament. Congress' General Secretary in-charge Communications, Jairam Ramesh, had raised concerns about the removal of the statues in a social media post, describing it as "atrocious." However, the Lok Sabha Secretariat clarified that the relocation was aimed at improving visitor accessibility to the statues within the Parliament Complex.

The newly designated Prerana Sthal within the Parliament House Complex is being developed to allow visitors to easily view the statues of these revered leaders and draw inspiration from their lives and philosophies. Modern technology will also be utilized to provide detailed information about the contributions of these leaders to visitors.

Highlighting the significance of these statues, the Lok Sabha Secretariat emphasized the monumental contributions of these leaders to India's independence, cultural resurgence, and democratic journey. It reiterated that the relocation of statues within the Parliament Complex had been done systematically and respectfully with the approval of the Honorable Lok Sabha Speaker. The move aims to create a place of reverence where visitors can pay tribute to these great leaders and draw inspiration for generations to come.
