Chandigarh: Farmers' unions are gearing up to stage a protest rally in solidarity with CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur, who purportedly slapped BJP MP-elect Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh Airport. Scheduled for June 9 in Mohali, Punjab, the demonstration, named the "Insaaf (Justice) March," aims to advocate for Kaur and demand a fair investigation into the altercation at the airport.
The incident unfolded when Ranaut alleged she was slapped by a female constable during a security check at Chandigarh Airport. The constable, Kulwinder Kaur, cited Ranaut's controversial remarks about Punjabi women involved in the farmers' protest as the motive behind her actions. In a video post-incident, Kaur explained that her mother was among the protesters referenced by Ranaut, who allegedly claimed they were protesting for a meager sum of Rs 100. This explanation has sparked solidarity among farmer organizations like the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, who are standing by Kaur's side.
Leaders from these organizations, including Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher, are set to meet Punjab's Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav to advocate for a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure fairness for Kaur. They also plan to lead the "Insaaf March" to the senior superintendent of police's office in Mohali on June 9. In response to the incident, CISF suspended Kulwinder Kaur and initiated an internal probe to examine the alleged slapping incident, awaiting further developments.
