Chandigarh: A brutal incident occurred in Ismailpur village, Haryana's Faridabad district, on the night of June 5, shortly after the announcement of the Lok Sabha election results. Sixteen cows were found slashed with a sharp object, prompting immediate investigation and calls for justice. This disturbing act has raised significant concerns among both the villagers and authorities regarding the welfare of these innocent animals.

The horrific scene was first discovered by animal activist Archana Upadhyay, who was alerted by locals about an injured cow. Upon investigation, she found multiple cows with severe injuries, characterized by deep, sharp slashes exposing bones, underscoring the brutality of the assault. Upadhyay lodged a complaint at the Palla police station, reporting that at least 16 cows had been seriously injured. She urged authorities to charge the attackers under animal cruelty laws and the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act, 2015. Although the culprits remain unidentified, the severity of the attacks has led to widespread calls for a thorough investigation.

Ravi Dubey, founder of Aastha Animal Hospital where the injured cattle are being treated, expressed shock and outrage over the incident. He described the injuries as horrifying and condemned the cruelty inflicted upon the animals. Dubey suggested that a butcher’s knife might have been used and urged for a comprehensive investigation, questioning whether the attacks were connected to the recent election results. "What is the purpose behind slashing the cows with such cruelty? Was this done to disturb the peace, especially in light of the recent elections? The police must investigate it properly," he said.

In the recent elections, Krishan Pal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the Faridabad parliamentary constituency by a margin of over 1.7 lakh votes against Mahender Pratap Singh of the Congress party. This victory follows his previous win in 2019, where he secured an even larger margin of over five lakh votes. The station house officer (SHO) of Palla police station stated that the investigation is ongoing and no conclusions can be drawn yet. “We are looking into all possible angles,” the SHO said. “It’s too early to say anything definitive.” As the investigation continues, residents and animal rights activists across the region are anxiously awaiting justice.
