Sterlite Tech unveils optical solution for 5G rollout

CHENNAI: Sterlite Technologies Ltd has launched 5G Cosmos - an optical solution for towers and small cells for speedy 5G rollout.

Sterlite Technologies asserts that telecom operators must view fiberization through a futuristic prism. The company claimed that for rolling out 5G services of the highest calibre, tower fiberization must rise from about  35% to 80%.

Sterlite Technologies has also said that up to 4X tiny cells, backhauling with fibre, will be needed for 5G. The company claimed India's fiber space is constrained by deployment speed and scale.

5G Cosmos is an Atmanirbhar, patented solution that can tackle these challenges and connect every tower, small cell and node, Sterlite Technologies said.

Pankaj Miglani, Director of Supply Chain Management at Bharti Airtel, announced the launch of 5G Cosmos at IMC 2022 "We are preparing our infrastructure for 5G, and one essential requirement is fiberization. We are pleased with the use cases that 5G Cosmos can address for telecoms and allow us to provide our consumers with a fantastic 5G experience."

Director of Marketing at Sterlite Technologies, Ankit Agarwal, said: "India's telecom providers are prepared to set up fiber-rich networks for 5G. This will need a comprehensive and futuristic solution. We have built 5G Cosmos to enable fiberisation of macro and small cells at scale and achieve the full potential of 5G."
