Strained Relations within INDIA Alliance: Congress and TMC Clash on Seat Sharing

Kolkata: Congress leader in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her statement casting doubt on the Congress winning 40 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Chowdhury accused Banerjee of changing her stance and suggested that she fears the BJP. He expressed disappointment that a leader of the INDIA alliance would make such remarks and questioned the similarity in language between Banerjee and the BJP.

Chowdhury highlighted the alignment in BJP and Banerjee's statements regarding the Congress, stating that both claim the Congress has nothing to offer. He emphasized the difference in priorities, asserting that for Banerjee, the state comes first, while for Rahul Gandhi, the country is the top priority. This criticism follows Banerjee's challenge to the Congress to defeat the BJP in various states, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency, Varanasi.

The strained relationship between the INDIA allies, TMC and Congress, has become apparent due to disagreements over seat sharing for the upcoming general elections. Mamata Banerjee has insisted that the Congress must sever ties with the Left, particularly the CPM-led alliance, before any seat-sharing arrangement. Banerjee recalled past grievances with the CPI(M) and declared her intention to contest all 42 seats in the state independently.
