AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has now expressed displeasure over the police thrashing some Muslim persons accused of pelting stones at a Garba event in Gujarat. Recently he gave a statement, in which he attacked the BJP government of Gujarat. He said, 'Stray dogs are respected in India, but not Muslims.' Owaisi said, 'Wherever there is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the country. There it seems as if Muslim people are living in an open jail. More than Muslims, there is respect for stray dogs on the street. Not only this but madrasas are also being demolished.' With this, he further said, 'In Gujarat, the police caught Muslim people when it was said that they had pelted stones on the crowd during the Navratri Garba program. The state police thrashed Muslim men with sticks tied to poles in front of 300-400 people. Their people were shouting slogans because Muslim men were beaten up.' In fact, a few days ago in Undhela village of Kheda district of Gujarat, some people of the Muslim community pelted stones in a Garba dance program organized as part of the Navratri festival, in which 7 people including a policeman were injured. In this case, the police had told that the attackers had objected to a Garba program being organized near a mosque. At the same time, the police had arrested 13 attackers on the charge of stone pelting, although the remand of only three accused was sought. Earlier, TMC had lodged a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in this matter. TMC spokesperson Saket Gokhale had said that "it is a matter of shame that the NHRC itself did not take cognizance of the matter". In fact, Gokhale tweeted and wrote, 'It is a shame that the NHRC did not take suo motu cognizance of the case of public thrashing of Muslim youths by the police in Gujarat. They should not have an excuse of "nobody complained". Hence All India Trinamool Congress has filed a complaint in this regard with NHRC. During that time Gokhale had also shared a copy of the complaint.
