Indian boxer Sumit Sangwan made a stellar performance to reach the semi-finals of the 2022 Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament in Phuket, Thailand on Tuesday, after suffering a loss to Gaurav Chauhan. Playing his first match after getting a bye in the opening round, Sumit has been seen in good lay throughout the match. He also secured a comfortable 5-0 win over Kazakhstan's Timur Nursitov in the men's 75kg quarterfinal match. Gaurav (91kg), on the other hand, ended his campaign with a 1-4 loss to 2018 Youth Olympic champions Abek Oralbe of Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals. Sumit has become the fourth India semi-finalist in the tournament which saw the presence of 130 top boxers, including 74 men and 56 women, from Asia, Europe, Oceania and Africa. The other three Indians are Monika (48kg), Ashish Kumar (81kg) and Manisha (57kg), who have already advanced to the semi-finals. 6 India boxers appeared in action on Wednesday. Bhagyabati Kachari (75kg), Amit Panghal (52kg) and Rohit Mor (57kg) are set to challenge in the quarterfinals, while Govind Sahni (48), Varinder Singh (60kg) and Ashish Kumar (81) kg) will clash for a place in the finals.
