'Data on clinical trial of corona vaccine to be made public', SC asks Centre

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has sent a notice to the Central government seeking a clinical trial of the corona vaccine and publicizing post-vaccination data. The court has sent notices to the Union Health Ministry, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and vaccine manufacturers and asked all to file replies within four weeks. Pediatrician Dr. Jacob Puliyel has filed the petition in the supreme court.

The apex court said it is issuing notices on the petition but does not want to create confusion in the minds of the people about vaccination. A bench of Justices L Nageshwar Rao and Rishikesh Roy said, 'Because vaccine suspicion is already causing problems. The country is fighting the vaccine shortage, the vaccination continues and we don't want to stop it.'

Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan on behalf of the petitioner told the court that all international bodies, including ICMR, have rules that vaccine data should be given. He said experts look at the release of data in public. 'We are not saying that vaccination should be stopped, but trial data should be brought into the public domain,' he said.
