SC hearing on Amazon's plea on July 20, case related to Future-Reliance deal

New Delhi: The apex court on Thursday said it will hear Amazon's plea against the Delhi High Court's July 20 verdict on the Future-Reliance deal. Amazon, while filing a petition in the Supreme Court on April 8, had challenged a Delhi High Court bench order lifting the ban on a Rs 24,713 crores property sale deal with Reliance Industries on the Kishore Biyani-led Future Group.

Earlier, Future Retail Limited (FRL) had challenged the single bench order in the High Court. A single-judge bench had upheld the Singapore Emergency Arbitration (EA) Tribunal order denying FRL steps on a Rs 24,713 crores deal with Reliance Industries. Senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for the future group, told a bench of Justices R F Nariman, KM Joseph, and BR Gavai that the Singapore court will start hearing the issue from July 12 and urged that the appeal be adjourned for a week.

Senior advocate Gopal Subramaniam, on behalf of the US e-commerce company, said he had no problem when the appeal was adjourned for a week. The bench has since posted the matter for further hearing on July 20. The Supreme Court had earlier on February 22 asked the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) not to pass a final order on the merger.
