New Delhi: The hearing was held on Friday (26 February) in the largest court of the country regarding the Caste Based Census. After hearing the petition for the caste-based census for backward classes, the court has sent notices to the Center, the National Backward Classes Commission, and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The court has asked the Center to reply on this issue. The apex court issued a notice on the PIL filed by G Mallesh Yadav, in which his lawyer GS Mani said that a similar petition is already pending in the Supreme Court. It was said that in the census form of 2021 there is a column for religion, SC/ST status, but there is no column regarding OBC status. According to the petitioner, the caste census of OBC has a big role in implementing reservations in education, employment, elections, etc. There has been a demand for a census on the basis of caste in the country for a long time. In such a situation, the demand for conducting a census on the basis of caste is increasing in the middle of the process of the 2021 census. A statement was made by CM Nitish Kumar in favor of conducting a caste-based census in the Bihar Legislative Assembly recently.
