MUMBAI: The Supreme Court has refused to consider the bail plea of a man arrested from Gujarat in connection with an alleged controversial tweet about Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and his minister son Aditya Thackeray. A bench of Chief Justice (CJI) SA Bobde asked senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, appearing for accused Sameer Thakkar, to go to the Bombay High Court. The bench said that the High Court can also protect its fundamental rights. The bench said that the High Court can also retain your fundamental rights, can also transfer the case and bail you out, then why are you coming here with a petition under Section 32. On this Jethmalani said that Thakkar has been arrested for the bailable offence and it will also hurt you. On this, the bench asked them to go to the High Court and said, 'We are quite a trauma-free now, we are seeing this every day, nothing hurts us.' Meanwhile, the Maharashtra lawyer said that he would not oppose his bail in the magistrate's court as Thakkar has been questioned in custody. Three FIRs have been registered against Thakkar only for his tweet and he was arrested on 24 October from Rajkot. He was then brought to Nagpur on transit remand and questioned regarding his tweet. Not only this, his detention period has also been extended.
