New Delhi: In the case related to Sabarimala, the constitutional bench of 9 judges of the top court has given its verdict. The court has said on Monday that in reconsideration petitions, questions of law can also be referred to a larger bench. Earlier in the last hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had expressed his opinion about the objections raised by some lawyers on linking with matters related to other religions. He said that the issue in front of the 9 judges' bench has nothing to do with the Sabarimala case and its review. The Solicitor General had further told that the bench hearing the review petition had not sent the entire verdict in the Sabarimala case to the larger bench. Instead, large matters related to religious traditions were sent to the big bench. During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had justified the verdict of the apex court to bring the questions of law to the larger bench. The Bench of Judges had considered whether the Supreme Court, using reconsideration jurisdiction, could send the question of law to a larger bench. This question was raised during the hearing of the Sabarimala case which is related to religious prejudice against women at various religious places.
