New Delhi: The apex court has upheld the Speaker's decision to disqualify the 17 rebel MLAs from the Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) and the Congress coalition government. Of these, 14 MLAs are from Congress and three MLAs are from JDS. The speaker disqualified the legislators in July on the basis of defection law. When the speaker had disqualified these MLAs, he also said that he cannot contest any election until the term of this assembly ends. This decision of the speaker has been rejected by the Supreme Court.
