He later resigned from the Lok Sabha and took over as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. He was given a finance portfolio along with several other departments. After the NDA's victory in the Bihar elections in 2010, he remained the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. Modi was not able to campaign for BJP in Bihar assembly elections for 2005 and 2010.
