Swachh Survekshan Award: Navi Mumbai wins first prize in 'Safai Mitra Suraksha Challenge'

Chhattisgarh has been ranked first in the category of Clean States in the Swachh Survekshan. Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have been ranked second and third respectively. Both these States have more than 100 urban local bodies. Under the information received, Jharkhand stood first in the category of States with less than 100 urban local bodies followed by Haryana and Goa. Giving away the awards to the States, President Ram Nath Kovind said, "Mahatma Gandhi had said that cleanliness should be the top priority and keeping this in mind, PM has taken forward the Swachh Bharat Mission as a mass movement''. 

He further said, 'Good practices and practices of cleanliness award-winning cities should be adopted. According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the Swachh Survekshan took the opinion of 4.2 crore people in 4,320 cities in 28 days at the national level. Vita city of Maharashtra has won the first prize in cities with a population of less than one lakh. Similarly, the New Delhi Municipal Council secured the first position in small clean cities with a population of one to three lakh.

Hoshangabad and Tirupati have emerged as the best small towns. While Noida has emerged as a 'clean medium city' in the country in the category of three to ten lakh population. Navi Mumbai won the first prize in the Safai Mitra Suraksha Challenge and has also won the title of being the 'cleanest largest city' with a population of 10 to 40 lakh. Ahmedabad remained the cleanest city in the cantonment board category followed by Meerut and Delhi.

New rules will be issued for travel in Metro and DTC buses.
