New Delhi: Delhi is also going to get approval for travel by standing in metros and buses. While it has been learnt that the proposal of the Delhi Government seeking to travel by standing in metro and DTC/cluster buses has been approved by DDMA Chairman and Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal. However, there will be certain conditions. At present, the number of seats in both metro and buses is applicable.

How many people will be able to travel in a coach of Delhi Metro after the new rule?: As per the DDMA order, 100 per cent sitting capacity as well as 30 more people can travel in a metro coach. Standing will be sanctioned for 30 people in a metro coach.

How many people can stand and travel in DTC buses?: According to the sitting capacity, 50 per cent of the people will be able to travel standing in the bus. If a bus has 40 seats, 20 people can travel standing. 60 people can travel by bus at a time.

How many buses are available in Delhi now?: Delhi is currently operating 3760 buses of DTC and 3033 buses of clusters. Accordingly, there are a total of 6793 buses, out of which 50 per cent more are going to travel.

Will extra private buses take to the streets in Delhi?: Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot has also issued an order to hire 1000 private CNG buses.  It is learnt that some buses will start coming on the roads from Monday. Transport Department Joint Commissioner Navalendra Kumar Singh said that permits have been issued to 534 private DTC buses by Saturday evening.

Still, have to follow corona guidelines?: Strict guidelines have been issued to DTC and Metro that the Covid Protocol should be followed at all costs. Riders will be required to wear masks and follow social dispensing.

Is this the new rule or the old one amended?: State that the DDMA had issued an order for the next 2 weeks on November 15, in which this amendment is being made.

Why has this new rule been introduced?: Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot had sent a proposal to DDMA to increase the capacity of public transport amid rising pollution to allow buses to travel on metros.
