Taliban capture another Afghan provincial capital, officers escaped

Meanwhile, the Taliban has camped in Kandahar, another provincial capital, in Afghanistan. It is the 12th out of 34 provincial capitals of Afghanistan which have been captured by the Taliban after the attack. Kandahar is also the second-largest city in the country. Officials said the Taliban managed to capture Kandahar on Thursday night while a team of government officials managed to escape from the city by air.

The same Taliban captured 11 of Afghanistan's 34 provincial capitals before Kandahar within a week. Taliban fighters captured the famous mosque in the historic city, which dates back to 500 BC. Sources said sporadic gunfire was heard in a government building while the rest of the city has gone under rebel control.
