Kabul: Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has stated that discussions between the Taliban and the United States will continue in Doha, Qatar. "The officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan will resume and continue talks with United States representatives in accordance with the Doha agreement, and the discussions might be beneficial," Mujahid was reported as saying by Afghanistan's state-run media agency. He noted that the talks will assist renew commitments and alleviate fears, and that attempts to free Afghanistan's frozen funds would continue. Meanwhile, according to reports, an Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman, Abdul Qahar Balkhi, said a high-ranking Kabul team led by acting Foreign Minister Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi will visit Doha from November 27 to 29 to meet with the US delegation. According to local media, the talks would focus on issues of mutual interest, such as the release of frozen assets, humanitarian assistance, and the reopening of the US embassy in Afghanistan. The US State Department said, the proposed two-week talks will cover a variety of topics, including combating the violent Islamic State and Al-Qaeda factions, as well as humanitarian relief.
