Chennai: A Hindu student of a government high school in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday (April 13, 2022) filed a complaint against her Christian teacher for making derogatory remarks against Hindu gods and goddesses. The student, who studies in a school in the Kannattuvilai area, has also stated in her complaint that she was forced to offer Christian prayers. The student and her parents have demanded strict action against the teacher. According to local reports, the Kanyakumari district administration has suspended the Christian teacher accused in the case with immediate effect and has directed the primary education officer to conduct an inquiry. The matter came to light when the parents of the Class VI student released the video informing about the teacher's actions. In the video, the girl said that the teacher asked the students to offer Christian prayers and made indecent remarks about Hindu gods. According to the complaint, the girl said, "They asked us to read the Bible. We said we were Hindus. We read the Bhagavad Gita. He said that the Bhagavad Gita is bad and there are good things in the Bible, so we should read the Bible.'' The video of the girl, which is going viral on social media, further says that the Christian teacher, who teaches sewing in the school, used to ask the students to offer Christian prayers by kneeling and folding their hands before lunch. She would also draw a cross with threads in the sewing class and ask the students to believe in Christianity. According to the girl, the Hindu students refused to offer Christian prayers, and then the teacher forcibly called them and ordered them to kneel inside the school premises. During interrogation, the girl told the police that the teacher had told a story related to a devil (Hindu) and a Christian. She said, "Devil and a Christian were riding on a bike. They died in an accident. There were some people reading the Bible nearby and the dead came back to life.'' Let us know that this is not the first incident in which Hindu students have been forced to convert to another religion. Earlier in January, Lavanya, a class 12 student of Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Thirukkattupali in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, had committed suicide after being continuously harassed by the school authorities for not converting to Christianity. The school is said to have threatened her that she would have to convert to Christianity if she wanted to continue her studies in the school.
