UDHAGAMANDALAM: M K Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, lay the foundation stones for 20 projects worth Rs 34.30 crore in the Nilgiris district on Saturday. At a celebration held at Government Arts College here, he also inaugurated 28 completed projects worth Rs 56.20 crore. Stalin also delivered Rs 28.13 crore in social benefits to 9,500 people. On the occasion of the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's death anniversary, Stalin garlanded his statue at the bus station here. A bust of John Sullivan, the creator of modern Nilgiris, was also unveiled by the Chief Minister near the Government Botanical Garden. In 1817, Sullivan, the British Collector of composite Coimbatore, contributed to the development of the district as well as Ooty, which is now known as Udhagamandalam. The Rs 20 lakh bronze bust was unveiled to honour the 200th anniversary of Ooty's founding. At Doddabetta Panchayat Muthorai Children Centre, the Chief Minister also started a special medical camp for malnourished children under the 'Ensure Nutrition' scheme for children under the age of six. The 'Ensure Nutrition' programme aims to give specialised medical care to malnourished children. Medical camps are being hosted for a month in all districts.
