Tamil Nadu is on high alert ahead of release of The Kerala Story

CHENNAI: In anticipation for the May 5 release of the contentious movie "The Kerala Story," Tamil Nadu is on high alert. The government is aware that some organisations have called for protests and that some Islamic organisations have asked for the film to be banned. However, the government has decided against outright banning the movie and has instead notified all law enforcement organisations to exercise caution.

"Some organisations have demanded protests. A top government source said on the  condition of anonymity, "Our intelligence wing has taken note of their messages on social media. In a few districts, some Islamic organisations have also requested a ban from the police. However, the government does not forbid it. It is still legal in Kerala. The person continued, "We have, however, forwarded the alerts to all the law enforcement authorities to stay on high alert.

The official also stated that it is false to say that the intelligence wing has advised against the government releasing "The Kerala Story."

The official stated, "The intelligence officers have not provided us with any such recommendation, and the government has not made any decisions regarding it."

The Kerala high court, where related applications are currently pending, has been instructed by the Supreme Court to address the petitioners' requests to delay the release of the movie. The Supreme Court was contacted by the Muslim religious organisation Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind after the film's trailer was made public.

The petitioners claim that the movie denigrates the whole group and endangers Muslims' lives and way of life.  "The movie begins by flashing a note that it was inspired by true events... it is falsely stated that 32,000 girls have left Kerala for West Asia to join ISIS even though the UN, the Union Home Ministry, police sources, and experts agree that the number of Indians who left to join ISIS is around 66 and the maximum number of pro-ISIS persons who may have shown inclination towards ISIS is in between 100 and 200."

Meanwhile, the "Sangh Parivar" and the film's creators have been charged with propagandising for communism by Kerala's chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan.
