Now tap water to reach door-to-door, know govt's plan

Ranchi: In Jharkhand, the Central Government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 9,544 crore for 315 water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission. These schemes will benefit about 8 lakh rural households in 4,424 villages in the state. Under the scheme, drinking water supply through taps will be ensured in all households in the state by 2024. At the beginning of the Jal Jeevan Mission on August 15, 2019, only 3.45 lakh (5.83 per cent) of households in Jharkhand were getting tap water.

In the same 28 months, even after corona and lockdown, the state provided tap water connections to 6.73 lakh (11.38 per cent) of households. At present, tap water is being supplied to 10.18 lakh (17.20 per cent) of 59.23 lakh rural households in the state. This year, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat allowed an allocation of Rs 2479.88 crore under the scheme for Jharkhand, which is four times that of the previous year. The Union Water Power Minister allowed a four-fold increase and assured full support to Jharkhand for the supply of water to every household by 2024.

512.22 crore has been released so far to ensure that there is no shortage of money in grounding the same scheme. 750 crore has been allocated to Jharkhand in 2021-22 as per the grant given by the 15th Finance Commission to rural local bodies for water and sanitation. Another funding of Rs 3,952 crore will be ensured for the next five years i.e. 2025-26.
