Telangana Govt Announces Immediate Relief of Rs 5 Crore for Flood-Affected Areas

HYDERABAD: In response to severe flooding, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has announced an immediate relief package of Rs 5 crore for the districts hit hard by the recent deluge. The affected districts include Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahbubabad, and Suryapet.

In addition to the financial aid, the Chief Minister has allocated Rs 5 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives in the floods. He emphasized the need for a swift response to the damages and pledged to enhance compensation for losses related to cattle, goats, and sheep.

The state government plans to present a detailed report on the flood damage to the central government. CM Reddy will request the federal authorities to provide immediate assistance and consider declaring the floods a national disaster.

During a review of relief operations, CM Reddy instructed officials to stay alert in areas where heavy rains are forecasted. He also directed district Collectors to establish Call Centres to handle emergency queries and advised setting up a Command Control Center for better management of the crisis. Additionally, he urged Police Commissioners in Greater Hyderabad to manage traffic issues during heavy rains and prioritize repairs of damaged roads and power outages.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with CM Reddy to discuss the flood situation. The Chief Minister reported that Khammam district experienced significant damage. PM Modi praised the state’s response and assured that helicopters would be deployed for emergency services.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted very heavy to extremely heavy rain in isolated areas of Nirmal, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy districts, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds in various regions.
