New Delhi: The Central government has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court saying it has justified the appointment of Rakesh Asthana, a 1984 batch IPS officer, as police commissioner in Delhi. The Central Government has said that handling the public order of the country's capital Delhi is very challenging and an officer like Rakesh Asthana needed to be appointed as the Delhi Police Chief in view of the security of the country.
In fact, in response to several petitions challenging the appointment of IPS Rakesh Asthana, the Central Government has filed an affidavit in the apex court. In which the Central Government has said that they were selected for effective policing on the recent law and order situation arising in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The Centre in its affidavit demanded that petitions challenging Asthana's appointment to be dismissed. Both his transfer and service extension has been challenged in court.
An affidavit filed by the Union Home Ministry said that it was felt that a large state with various political parties and law and order problems required an officer working in CBI and paramilitary forces and police force. Keeping this in view, Rakesh Asthana, an IPS officer of the 1984 batch, has been appointed as Delhi Police Commissioner. Rakesh Asthana has full experience for this post in all forms.
