LOS ANGELES: English actress Emma Corrin, who played Diana Frances Spencer, Princess of Wales, in Season 4 of the Netflix series "The Crown," has advocated for gender-neutral categories at major award ceremonies, reports Variety. In a BBC News interview, the actress expressed the aforementioned viewpoint. The best actor and best actress nominees should be combined into one, gender-neutral category, according to Corrin, who uses they/them pronouns and self-identifies as non-binary. Corrin has reportedly received accolades for her supporting role in Michael Grandage's brand-new historical drama "My Policeman," but the actress admits that she feels uncomfortable with the idea of running for office in a gendered category. Corrin said, "it's challenging for me right now trying to justify in my thinking being non-binary and being nominated in feminine categories." Do we need to specify whether you are being nominated for a female role or a male one when it comes to categories? Regarding the possibility of gender-neutral categories, Corrin remarked, "I aspire for a future in which that happens. It is important for everyone to feel heard and represented, according to the statement. According to Variety, Corrin was nominated for an Emmy for outstanding lead actress last year for her work on "The Crown," however this was done while the actor was still accepting the pronouns she and her. When it comes to representation, Corrin said, "you can talk about awards and how people are represented there, but really the conversation needs to be about having more representation in the material itself, in the content that we are seeing for non-binary people, for queer people, for trans people, because then I think that will change a lot." She went on to say, "I think there will be more of an urgency with which these topics will be addressed when those parts come up, i.e. more people and more actors are playing those characters." Some music award shows, like the Grammys, which became gender-neutral in 2012, have already begun to transition toward award programming that is inclusive of all genders. For the 2022 event, the Brit Awards combined the best male and female solo artist categories into a single category.
