Well ahead of the festival season in India, the government of Delhi has imposed a complete ban on the sale and storage of all kinds of firecrackers. The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in his Twitter handle mentioned in Hindi reads, " In view of the worsening condition of Delhi's pollution during Diwali for the last 3 years, like last year, a complete ban is being imposed on the storage, sale, and use of all types of firecrackers so that people's lives can be saved." Kejriwal also appealed to the traders to avoid storing firecrackers as they suffered heavy losses last year.H said "Last year the ban was imposed after the traders brought their firecrackers stock which caused them heavy loss. It is an appeal to all the traders that this time in view of the complete ban, do not do any kind of storage."
The development comes after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Tuesday sought an appointment with Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav to discuss measures to be taken to reduce pollution in New Delhi. The secretary to the Delhi environment minister wrote a letter to the Union minister's private secretary in this regard.
Earlier on Monday, Kejriwal had said he would call on the Union environment minister with the audit report of Pusa bio-decomposer, a microbial solution that can turn stubble into manure in 15-20 days, and ask him to direct states surrounding Delhi to distribute it for free among farmers. He had said the audit by a central agency has found the use of Pusa bio-decomposer highly effective.
