The Meghalaya Chief Minister vows to make Meghalaya a top-10 state

Conrad K Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, said on Wednesday that his government is determined to make the state one of India's top ten states, adding that a "solid foundation" has been laid to achieve the ambitious goal. The Chief Minister stated that 38 lakh people from Meghalaya, along with people from other Northeastern states, will march ahead to show the world an unified market similar to the European Union.

"In the next ten years, Meghalaya will become one of the top ten states in the country, and a solid foundation has been established for that," Sangma said as he unfurled the National Flag at the Polo Ground on Republic Day. He said that, with the help of external agencies, effectively implementing different projects and Centrally-sponsored initiatives has led in an investment of Rs 14,000 crore in the State during the last several years.

According to Sangma, his government has just successfully gathered Rs 7,500 crore from foreign agencies, up from Rs 2,500 crore in 2018. "Funds from external agencies are being used in a range of initiatives in tourism, water catchment areas, road construction, integrated transport networks, and early childhood development," he said, adding that the State Government has received over Rs 1,300 crore from NABARD under various schemes and programmes.
