The web version will now feature image translation thanks to a decision by Google.

USA: The online version of Google Translate has always been "good enough". The web version of Translate has only the most basic features, unlike its more capable and feature-rich mobile cousin. However, Google has decided to change that. The business is currently implementing "image translation" for the web version.

In a post on the Google Translate support forum, Google announced the inclusion of image translation in the web version of Translate. The company announced that Image Translate is now available in Translate.google.com after receiving customer feedback. The company said users will start getting the feature "over the next few days".

Google has long offered translations of wizards on the Internet. This is already done by Google Lens. However, there is one small problem with using Lens on the web to translate text contained in images – it only works with online photos. You can't upload images with text to your computer and use Google Lens to translate them. The new feature fills that gap.

Go to "translate.google.com" to access Image Translate on the Internet. After "Text", a new "Images" option can be found in the top left corner. When you select the option, a request will appear to upload a photo from your computer. Unfortunately, you cannot drag and drop the image. As a result, uploading is the only viable option.

When you upload a picture, you can choose the language you want the text in the image to be translated into. The original text can be automatically recognized by Google Translate.

Once the text is translated, you can either copy it or download it. If you turn on the "Show Original" toggle, you can compare the two images.

As you can see below, Google Lens is what powers the feature. Despite its advantages, this feature still lags behind the one in mobile phones.

The translated text cannot be heard on the web version. You cannot manually copy any of this. The direct approach to image translation is still better than doing nothing.
