These women players, including Lovlina, made it to the squad for the World Championships

Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain (70kg), veteran Nikhat Zareen (52kg) and Pooja Rani (81kg) have made it to the Indian team for the Women's World Boxing Championships. The three-star boxers secured their place for the May championships in Istanbul on Wednesday after a three-day trial.

Lovlina has defeated youth world champion, Arundhati Chaudhary. She had moved the Delhi High Court in December last year opposing Lovlina's automatic selection for the World Championships. According to media reports, this will be Lovlina's first competition after winning a bronze medal in the 69kg event in Tokyo. International Boxing Association (IBA) competitions no longer compete in 69kg.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the World Championships have been postponed and are now scheduled to be held from May 6 to 21. Apart from the 12 weight categories of the World Championships, the selection for the Asian Games has also been confirmed in three weight categories (57 kg, 60 kg and 75 kg). Manisha has been selected in 57kg, Jasmine in 60kg and veteran Sweety Burra in 75kg. Zareen's selection was scheduled to be made after becoming the first  Indian woman boxer to win two gold medals at the prestigious Strandja Memorial tournament earlier this month. Neetu (48kg), who won a gold medal in the same tournament, has also made it to the World Championship team.
