Kolkata: On Wednesday, the CBI has taken major action in West Bengal. The investigating agency has arrested TMC leader Anubrata Mondal in connection with the cattle smuggling case. The CBI issued 10 summons to Mandal for questioning, but he did not appear. Subsequently, the CBI approached the court seeking permission to arrest him. Two days ago, the CBI summoned Anubrata Mondal. Anubrata is also the Birbhum district president of TMC and is considered a strong leader of the party. The CBI had asked Mandal to appear before the agency at the CBI office at Nizam Palace at 11 am on Wednesday. Mandal was informed through e-mail. However, he had cited ill health and did not appear. Earlier, Mandal was summoned on Monday, but he did not go to the CBI headquarters. According to his lawyer, he had mailed the CBI asking it to change the date.
