Tips to deal with cold during pregnancy!!!

Catching a cold is never pleasant especially when you’re pregnant and unable to take your medication. But there are other ways to give yourself some relief.

Treating cold

Gargling with warm salt water for a sore throat or cough Drinking a lot of fluids Getting plenty of rest Adding honey or lemon  Breathing warm,  humid air to help loosen congestion. Saline nasal drops . Chicken soup helps  relieve inflammation and soothe congestion.

Prevent cold

Getting enough sleep Washing your hands often Reducing stress Avoiding close contact with sick family or friends Exercise Eating  healthy

When to see the doctor

Coughing up greenish or yellowish mucus Sinuses are throbbing Fever over 100.4°F Cough with chest pain or wheezing

If symptoms last more than a couple of weeks: It’s possible that your cold has progressed to a secondary infection, and a prescription medication may be needed for your safety and your baby’s

Your cold is severe enough to interfere with eating or sleeping

Medication to avoid

Some pain relievers and fever reducers. Aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen  can interfere with your baby's development in the early months and be problematic during labor.

Homeopathic remedies. Don’t take Echinacea, supplemental vitamins (like zinc supplements) or other over-the-counter herbal remedies without medical approval.
