New Delhi: Drinking alcohol may be a problem in Delhi from Tuesday night. About 400 liquor contracts will be locked in Delhi from Tuesday and now only private liquor vendors will be able to sell liquor in their shops. This is because the new excise policy of the Delhi government will come into effect from Wednesday morning. However, it is feared that the sudden closure of a large number of government contracts will also lead to a shortage of liquor and a sudden rush at private shops. That is, formally government liquor contracts in Delhi will now be closed and the business will now be handed over only to private vendors. According to excise department sources, the new excise policy will come into effect in Delhi from November 17 under which all applicants in 32 zones have been licensed. But under the new system, 300-350 shops are expected to start operating on the first day i.e. Wednesday. There may be difficulty in getting alcohol. According to the information, interim licences have been distributed to 350 shops and more than 200 brands have been registered with 10 wholesale licensees. However, department officials say that gradually all 850 liquor contracts will start and there will be no shortage of liquor after that.
