Amritsar: Punjab Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi informed on Tuesday that the state government will honor gold medal winner Neeraj Chopra as well as Olympic medal winners and participating state athletes with a cash prize of Rs 15.10 crore at a special function to be held in Chandigarh on August 12. Rana Sodhi further said, "Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh will felicitate the Olympic athletes while Governor V.P. Singh Badnore will be the guest of honor on the occasion.'' According to the CM special announcement, Olympic gold medal Neeraj Chopra will be awarded an amount of Rs 2 crore. With this, the Indian hockey team has won a medal in the Olympic Games after a long gap of 41 years, with Punjab having the highest number of 11 players, including captain and vice-captain. Among the 11 Punjabi players of the Indian hockey team who won bronze medals, Manpreet Singh (captain), Harmanpreet Singh (vice-captain), Rupinder Pal Singh, Simranjit Singh, Mandeep Singh, Gurjant Singh, Shamsher Singh, Varun Kumar, Dilpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, and Krishna Pathak will be felicitated with Rs 1 crore each.
