Tomato, onion and pulses supplies will increase in northern states

New Delhi: The High Level Committee, set up to monitor the inflation of essential commodities in the country, has decided to increase the supply of commodities like tomatoes, onions and lentils in the northern states including the capital Delhi Region (NCR). In the meeting of the committee, the process of increasing supply of tomatoes has been started in the capital Delhi from Saturday, whose first shipment is expected to reach by Saturday evening. Many important decisions have been taken in the meeting of the Monitoring Committee on Friday.

In this, the most discussion was about tomato inflation. Adequate supply of tomatoes has been decided in entire NCR including the capital Delhi. According to sources, the first batch of tomatoes has been dispatched from major tomato growing areas of Andhra Pradesh. Tomatoes will not be sold at more than Rs 55 per kg from Mother Dairy shops. Officials of the Ministry of Agriculture told in the meeting that the excessive monsoon rains had no effect on tomato cultivation or production.

Tomato is being supplied from Bangalore's Kolar region to Bengaluru mandi. The meeting was attended by Consumer Secretary Avinash Kumar Srivastava along with top officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, along with Horticulture Commissioner, Managing Director of Nafed. Managing Director of NAFED has been asked to submit a detailed report in two days regarding supply of tomatoes, onions and lentils.

Regarding the availability of tomatoes, the Horticulture Commissioner has been asked to explore the growing areas. Demand for tomatoes and onions is also coming from Uttar Pradesh, where prices have increased a lot. Regarding interest, Nafed told in the meeting that many difficulties are being created by the Delhi government. Onion trucks reaching Delhi are rejecting the state government officials in the name of quality. Whereas his officers check him in the producers' mandis. NAFED has offered to buy onions at a rate of Rs 16 per kg from all states.
