TRAI to make rules on call drops in 4G services

Consumers suffering from the problem of call-drop in 4G communication services in the country are expected to get relief soon, as the telecom regulator is going to issue new guidelines this week to improve these services. In this, the telecom companies will have to report the issues related to the call drop and call mute in 4G services, and every three months to the telecom regulator. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will issue new rules on the basis of data collected from the reports from telecom companies.     The instructions will be issued this week. Various complaints of problems are faced by customers who use the 4G service. Most calls are delayed and users face many problems. Due to delayed calls, 2G, 3G and 4G have to be wired together, because transmission from one spectrum to another spectrum takes time. In such a situation, TRAI has included the other call-drop and the aspect of not having the voice included in its guidelines. It is believed that by issuing these instructions this week, TRAI will move one step further in the new rules for 4G.

According to TRAI, TRAI can take six months to one year to collect the actual figure of the call drop and call mute. New rules will be decided based on the review of the data collected during this period. At present, the companies will have to submit reports based on data only every three months to the regulator. It will be clear from what the service provider is providing better services. TRAI issued a consultation paper in February last on this issue.
