Transporters Strike Continued In Assam

 Strike for compensating losses by Assam transporters continued as the organization wanted advantages to equalize losses. The transport associations have brought up several demands to repay the losses they tolerated due to the pandemic and the lockdown. The strike is continued Today for a consecutive third day as transporters in Assam have faced a lot of problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. The strike was started on Monday by the union stating their demands to senior authorities but still, their demands didn't get approval. A senior functionary of the All Assam Motor Transport Association (AAMTA), which is leading the agitation, said that over one lakh passenger-carrying vehicles, containing private city buses in Guwahati, are now off the roads.

But in the period of the strike also all buses that belong to the Assam State Transport Corporation have been running as usual on the roads. Cabs operating under aggregator services like Ola and Uber are also functioning so the common citizen is not facing a lot of problems. AAMTA secretary-general Pradip Das told in an interview that they have demanded a two-quarter tax remission to counter the losses due to the pandemic.“Moreover, we have asked that since city buses are operating at 50 percent capacity, therefore the fare should be increased. There should be some increase even if not doubled,” he started.
