Yeddyurappa to table confidence motion in Assembly on July 29

BANGALORE: Karnataka BJP President and new CM BS Yeddyurappa said on Friday that he will table a confidence motion in the Assembly on July 29. "The session of the Karnataka Assembly will be convened at 10 a.m. on July 29 to present a confidence motion and pass the Finance Bill. He has been sworn in after several weeks of political drama and legal battles in the state.

The political crisis broke out after the resignation of 15 rebel Congress and JD(S) MLAs and the JD(S) coalition government collapsed on Tuesday. Union Home Minister and BJP National President Amit Shah expressed confidence that a stable government will be formed under yeddyurappa's leadership in the state. Yeddyurappa was sworn in on Friday after the Congress-JD(S) coalition government lost the confidence vote three days ago.

Governor Vajubhai Wala administered the oath of office and secrecy to 76-year-old Yeddyurappa at a function held at Raj Bhavan in the evening. Yeddyurappa is credited with the formation of the BJP government for the first time in 2008 in South India. The Lingayat leader took the initiative on Friday morning to claim the formation of a sudden government. A day earlier, Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar disqualified three rebel Congress-JD(S) MLAs.

BJP President Amit Shah congratulated B S Yeddyurappa after taking oath and expressed confidence that the party will provide a stable, pro-farmer and development-oriented government under his leadership in the state. "Congratulations to the new Chief Minister of Karnataka, Bs Yeddyurappa. I am confident that under his leadership and under the guidance of Prime Minister Modi, the BJP will give a stable, pro-farmer and development-oriented government in the state. I assure the people of Karnataka that the BJP is committed to fulfil their aspirations. ''
