Delhi riot: Accused Umar Khalid's court petition, serious allegations levelled against media

New Delhi: Former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student leader Umar Khalid told a court on Thursday that the media had devised a deliberate strategy and concerted efforts to create a biased perception against him in the north-east Delhi riots case. The petition filed by Umar Khalid in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Dinesh Kumar was heard during the hearing.

In the petition, Khalid alleged that an immoral media trial was initiated by making the supplementary charge sheet filed against him before the court could take any cognizance. Khalid said that the alleged contradictory media reports, in which he was convicted, are continuing and they are suffering a lot. Khalid alleged that the contradictory media reports, which showed me not only the accused but also almost blamed, are going on.

Khalid said in the court that I want to tell you this because it is hurting me a lot and my right to a fair trial is also directly affecting it. The fact is that even after telling me, I see it as a deliberate strategy.
