'Umesh Yadav's' catch could have put hosts in problem !

In the first test match being played in Rajkot, Zoe Root hits back straight to Umesh Yadav and he has just tossed the ball into the air just holding it for a fraction of the time. In the re-attempt, he failed to get the grip. The action was so fast that the Umpire could have taken this as the catch dropped. Then the third umpire was called to clear the confusion and then it shows that the fielder has caught the ball with full control and then tossed it which is the legal catch.

Before 2000, it could have been a trouble because in the ICC code of conduct amendment comes for the fielding rule. Pre-2000, it was the 1980 code, and the law stated thus: “The act of making the catch shall start from the time when the fieldsman first handles the ball and shall end when he both retains complete control over the further disposal of the ball and remains within the field of play.”

when a few changes were made in the cricket laws, its phrasing changed. It now reads: “The act of making the catch shall start from the time when a fielder first handles the ball and shall end when the fielder obtains complete control both over the ball and over his movement.”
