UN Coordinator embarks Mariupol, Ukraine, to prepare for evacuation

KIEV: UN resident coordinator and humanitarian coordinator in Ukraine Osnat Lubrani has announced that she will embark to Zaporizhzhia in southern Ukraine to prepare for the evacuation of Mariupol.

"Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has come in Ukraine to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky. I'm going to Zaporizhzhia at his request to prepare for a possible evacuation from Mariupol "Lubrani tweeted on Thursday.  

Lubrani emphasised that the UN is fully prepared to help save Ukrainian lives and support those in need.

After visiting Moscow on Tuesday, Guterres arrived in Ukraine on Wednesday to meet with Zelensky, report said.

Mariupol, a strategic Azov Sea port city in eastern Ukraine, has seen some of the worst fighting in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
