BEIRUT: UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon, Najat Rochdi, has urged Lebanese authorities to take emergency development measures in the face of the country's present humanitarian crisis, according to a statement released by Lebanon's Council of Ministers.
"The country requires emergency development to end the extended economic stagnation and serve as a catalyst for the country's progress and prosperity," Rochdi said on Thursday.
His remarks came during Prime Minister Najib Mikati's signing of the United Nations Strategic Framework in Lebanon for 2022-2025 at the Grand Serail. Rochdi went on to say that emergency development measures necessitate all parties' commitment and the government's determination to execute reforms.
Mikati, for his part, expressed pride in Lebanon's long-standing connection with the United Nations, which he said benefits the country on all levels. He also lauded the UN's emergency programmes for their contribution in addressing Lebanon's major crisis. "We express our gratitude and appreciation to Lebanon's donors for their support in achieving the sustainable development goals," he added.
