UNITED NATIONS: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres recommended on Wednesday that the world commits to making 2022 a year of recovery for everybody. "The world welcomes 2022 with our hopes for the future being tested by deepening poverty and worsening inequality... an unequal distribution of Covid vaccines... climate commitments that fall short, and by ongoing conflict, division, and misinformation," Guterres said in his year-end message to the world. He went on to say that these are "moral and real-life tests," not merely policy tests. These are tests that all of humanity can pass "if we commit to make 2022 a year of healing for everyone," according to the UN Secretary-General. Guterres went on to explain how best to proceed with recovery on each front. He stated that the pandemic necessitates "a ambitious plan to vaccinate every individual, everywhere." In order to save the global economy, the UN chief stated that wealthier countries must provide "finance, investment, and debt relief" to the poor world. Meanwhile, he underlined that a new emphasis must be placed "on science, facts, and reason" in order to recover from mistrust and division. At the same time, resolving disputes necessitates "a revitalised spirit of communication, compromise, and reconciliation," according to Guterres, while rebuilding our planet necessitates "climate pledges that equal the scope and severity of the challenge."
