Unanimous support for endeavors to bring back all Indians from Ukraine: MEA

NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Thursday that all members of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) backed the government's efforts to bring all Indians back to India.

He said shortly after the meeting was over, "A MEA consultative committee meeting on happenings in Ukraine just ended. A good explanation of the issue's strategic and humanitarian dimensions. A strong and unifying message of support for efforts to repatriate all Indians from Ukraine has been sent." According to reports, Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla informed members of the Parliamentary Committee on the initiatives made by the government to bring trapped Indians back from war-torn Ukraine.

Since the original advisories were issued, approximately 17,000 Indian people have fled Ukraine, according to the Minister. This includes some Indians who had previously failed to register with the Indian Embassy in Kiev, and the number of flights under Operation Ganga has been doubled.

He also stated that six 'Operation Ganga' flights landed in India in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of flights to 15. Eight of the flights originated in Bucharest, five in Budapest, and two in Rzeszow, Poland.
