Former India U-19 World Cup-winning captain Unmukt Chand has affirmed going to the USA after signing a three-year deal with Major League Cricket. There are expectations that Unmukt would be meeting his former India U-19 teammates, Smit Patel and Harmeet Singh, in the USA. Speaking to the media, Unmukt confirmed that he has moved to the USA and is looking to play good cricket in America. He can also play for the USA cricket team after serving the residency period. "It's a tough one for someone like me, who has always dreamed of playing for the country. And most of it very emotional one as well and obviously, having played every other cricket, except for the senior team, I think it was a very unpleasant call. But then the last few years have not been very kind to me in terms of facing a lot of association politics among other things," Unmukt told media. He further added, "I've not been able to play a lot of cricket because of such things and that is why I arrived at this decision, to play some good cricket here in the US. I'd finally like to thank the BCCI for their support over the years in making me the cricketer I am today." The 28-year-old had the first shot to the attention after leading the junior team to a title victory in the 2012 U-19 World Cup. He led the team from the front and scored 111* in the final in the chase to the target of 226 against Australia. He became a regular member of India A after his success at the junior level and also led the team till 2015. Unmukt was then dropped from Delhi's Vijay Hazare Trophy team in 2017 and became an occasional member of the team after that. He moved to Uttarakhand in 2019 but didn't have a great run there. He returned to Delhi for the 2020/21 season but wasn't given a chance. Since Unmukt has now signed with MLC, he cannot play IPL or Indian domestic cricket now. Smit, who played under Unmukt in WC, has already signed with CPL franchise Barbados Tridents.
