NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to the people to contribute to the growth of democracy by voting in the fourth round of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, which began on Wednesday. Prime Minister Modi took to Twitter to say: "The fourth phase of voting in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections gets underway today. I implore all voters to contribute to the strengthening of democracy by using their right to vote." Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, urged voters to "participate enthusiastically" in the election because "your one vote will contribute significantly in protecting the honour and rights of crores of poor people in the state, as well as in keeping the state free of fear, corruption, and mafia terror." Union Minister Nitin Gadkari urged voters to "exercise their vote and contribute their part in strengthening democracy" in his plea. Voting is underway in 59 Assembly constituencies throughout the nine districts of Lucknow, Rae Bareli, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Unnao, Fatehpur, Pilibhit, and Banda in the fourth round of the election. There are 624 contestants in the race.The Congress, the Bhartiya Janata Party, the Samajwadi Party-Rashtriya Lok Dal coalition, and the Bahujan Samaj Party are the primary challengers in the state's election.
