NEW DELHI: The PM CARES for Children Scheme has been extended by the Ministry of Women and Child Development until February 28, 2022. The programme was earlier valid through December 31, 2021.

A letter in this regard was written to all Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, Women and Child Development, Social Justice and Empowerment Departments of all states and UTs, with a copy to all District Magistrates, according to the ministry.

All eligible children can now be enrolled in the PM CARES for Children Scheme until February 28.

Starting March 11, 2020, the date on which WHO designated and defined COVID-19 as a pandemic until February 28, the scheme covers all children who have lost both parents, surviving parent, legal guardian, adoptive parents, or single adoptive parent owing to the COVID 19 pandemic.

To be eligible for payments under this system, the kid must be under the age of 18 at the time of the parents' death.

The scheme was announced to provide long-term care and protection for children whose parent(s) died as a result of the COVID pandemic, enabling their well-being through health insurance, empowering them through education, and equipping them for self-sufficiency with financial support once they reach the age of 23.
