WASHINGTON: The US has issued a new level-3 travel advisory for Pakistan, warning its people that the country could face terrorist strikes and that a conflict along the Line of Control could develop (LOC). As per reports, a level-3 travel alert signifies that US citizens should reconsider their plans if they are travelling to the country in issue. Due to the risk of terrorism and kidnapping, American citizens are prohibited from travelling to Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provinces as per travel alert published on April 4. It further warns people to stay away from areas along the Line of Control where there is a risk of "terrorism and the potential for armed confrontation." Terrorists could strike with little or no warning, targeting transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, military sites, airports, universities, tourist destinations, schools, hospitals, places of worship, and government buildings, according to the advisory statement. While terror incidents have been reported in Balochistan and KPK provinces in recent months, the alert states that "terrorist acts are rare in Islamabad," while threats do exist, according to reports "Due to the security situation in Pakistan, the US government has limited ability to offer emergency services to US residents. Travel by US government personnel within Pakistan is restricted, and additional restrictions on US government personnel's movements outside of US diplomatic facilities may be imposed at any time, depending on local circumstances and security conditions, which can change rapidly "The US Consulate General in Peshawar is unable to provide consular services to American citizens, according to the statement.
