A confident Indian team, which is now unbeaten in the tournament, will be vying for victory against low-ranked South Korea in the quarterfinals of the Junior Women's Hockey World Cup here on Friday. India was at the top of Pool D with a maximum of 9 points from three wins from three matches. India has beaten Wales (5-1), Germany (2-1) and Malaysia (4-0).

The team scored 11 goals in the meantime while only 2 goals have been scored against it. On the other hand, the Korean team finished second in Group C due to a better goal difference of just three points. In the Pool of Korea, Argentina's team topped the pool with a maximum of 9 points. Uruguay and Austria have the same three points as Korea, but due to the better goal difference, the Asian team has won this too. Apart from captain Salima Tete, the Indian team includes three Olympians in the form of strikers Sharmila Devi and Lalremsiami, who have made the team's fight heavy.

Salima has done well so far, creating many chances for the front line while Sharmila and Lalremsiami have also lived up to the expectations. India's star in the tournament so far has been however young striker Mumtaz Khan who has scored 5 goals so far, including a hat-trick against Malaysia. Along with  Mumtaz, Lalremsiami and Lalrindiki have scored 2 goals each in 3  matches while Sangeeta Kumari and drag-flicker Deepika have registered one goal each. Indian captain Salima, however, is not taking Korea lightly.

Salima has said that we have also had players playing at a fast pace. "We want to beat them but Korea's team is good and we have to play against them as a team. In the other quarter-finals of the day, the Netherlands will face South Africa while England is going to take on the United States. Argentina has to face Germany.'' The Junior Women's World Cup was scheduled to be held in December last year but has been postponed due to the threat of the omicron format of the coronavirus in South Africa. India, which participated four times in the Junior  World Cup, had the best performance in 2013 when the team has won the bronze medal. India could not qualify for the last tournament.
